The MAN Holding Me Down

For years I heard stories of how the MAN can hold you down. Well, I am here to tell you it is true! The MAN can and did hold me down. I am living proof. Every time I tried to take one step forward, the MAN pulled me two steps back.

The MAN introduced me to alcohol.
The MAN made me believe I needed to be a womanizer.
The MAN made me believe the love of money was not evil but, in fact, necessary.
The MAN made me believe I was not good enough.

In fact, the MAN is probably holding you down as well!

See, when I thought about it, the MAN was responsible for everything that kept me from being successful. I can remember talking to a philosophy teacher once and the discussion was about how the MAN was holding me—and all of my brothers—down. The teacher concurred but then asked me one simply question: “What do plan to do about it?” Thus began my struggle to find an answer. It used to infuriate me to have see the MAN everyday, mocking me, taunting me, showing me a life I could not have. And no matter where I went, there He was. So I took a moment to sit down and devise a plan to end the MAN's reign over my life.

First, I stopped drinking.
Then, I stopped womanizing.
Next, I stopped believing that money defined me.
Then, I stopped believing negative thoughts.

Once I put my plan into action and ended other vices the MAN could use against me, surprisingly, the MAN began to loosen his grip. He, instead, became a pitiful shell of an evil villain; a joke; a myth. And then I finally had my answer. After years of trying to get that mythological “devil” I so truly hated off of my back, it soon became very clear that the MAN I most feared was…

Me.

Until we meet again….

  5. Great blog...unfortunately many men (and some women) feel as though someone/thing is keeping them from doing what they want to do. The reality is they are hindering themselves from being successful and they are holding on to the vices you mentioned above as a crutch to keep fighting a fight that isn't necessary.
